Foundation Sire
In spite of his short lifespan, Huddersfield Ben was responsible for producing most of the foundation stock of the Yorkshire Terrier. He was an extremely popular stud dog, being prepotent, and especially due to his reputation as one of the first to breed true to type Yorkshire Terriers. Although between 9 -12 lb, he regularly sired stock that competed in the under 7 lb limit.

Famous quotes containing the words foundation and/or sire:
“In strict science, all persons underlie the same condition of an infinite remoteness. Shall we fear to cool our love by mining for the metaphysical foundation of this elysian temple? Shall I not be as real as the things I see? If I am, I shall not fear to know them for what they are.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“There a captive sat in chains
Crooning ditties treasured well
From his Africs torrid plains.
Sole estate his sire bequeathed,
Hapless sire to hapless son,
Was the wailing song he breathed,
And his chain when life was done.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
