2006 Endurance Race Controversy

During the endurance races of the 2006 season, the HSV Dealer Team and the Holden Racing Team engaged in a driver swap where Tander would race for HRT with Mark Skaife, and HRT driver Todd Kelly would pair with younger brother Rick. The teams were enabled to do so by a loop hole in the rules where the drivers could end contracts with their current teams and move into the other team temporarily. The driver swap angered many fans of opposing teams (especially Ford teams) due to Tander and Skaife being seen as a dream team. The swap was initiated in hopes of helping both Garth and Rick's championship (who were 1/2 before the endurance races). Despite fantastic speed shown by Tander and Skaife, it was tactic that backfired due to mechanical failures in the #2 Commodore of HRT in both rounds leading to Tander's championship aspirations being destroyed and the team instead focused on Kelly.

Famous quotes containing the words endurance, race and/or controversy:

The men who think of superannuation at sixty-one are those whose lives have been idle, not they who have really buckled themselves to work. It is my opinion that nothing seasons the mind for endurance like hard work. Port wine should perhaps be added.
    Anthony Trollope (1815–1882)

Very few of our race can be said to be yet finished men. We still carry sticking to us some remains of the preceding inferior quadruped organization. We call these millions men; but they are not yet men. Half-engaged in the soil, pawing to get free, man needs all the music that can be brought to disengage him.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Ours was a highly activist administration, with a lot of controversy involved ... but I’m not sure that it would be inconsistent with my own political nature to do it differently if I had it to do all over again.
Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter, Jr.)
