Howard Scott Warshaw - Early Life

Early Life

Before entering game design, Warshaw was "Colorado born, Jersey raised, and New Orleans schooled." He attended Tulane University, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree within 3 years, with a double major in Math and Economics. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa and received a scholarship for his graduate work in Computer Science. One year later he received his Master’s Degree in Computer Engineering.

After graduation, he began work at Hewlett-Packard as a multi-terminal systems engineer, which he found to be "boring." In 1981, he learned about an opening for a game programmer at Atari through a friend. The work and culture at Atari at the time appealed to him, and he quickly applied for the position, and was soon hired.

Famous quotes containing the words early and/or life:

The girl must early be impressed with the idea that she is to be “a hand, not a mouth”; a worker, and not a drone, in the great hive of human activity. Like the boy, she must be taught to look forward to a life of self-dependence, and early prepare herself for some trade or profession.
    Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815–1902)

My life is superficial, takes no root in the deep world; I ask, When shall I die, and be relieved of the responsibility of seeing a Universe which I do not use? I wish to exchange this flash-of-lightning faith for continuous daylight, this fever-glow for a benign climate.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
