Horse theft is no longer a common offense and the term horse thief may in fact contain humorous connotations when used, due to being anachronistic. Famous quotes containing the words present and/or day:
“One touch of nature makes the whole world kin,
That all, with one consent, praise new-born gauds.
And give to dust that is a little gilt
More laud than gilt oer dusted;
The present eye praises the present object.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
“I believe the alphabet is no longer considered an essential piece of equipment for traveling through life. In my day it was the keystone to knowledge. You learned the alphabet as you learned to count to ten, as you learned Now I lay me and the Lords Prayer and your fathers and mothers name and address and telephone number, all in case you were lost.”
—Eudora Welty (b. 1909)
