House
The building was constructed in around 1600. The original house has a central block of three bays, with two stories and an attic with dormer windows, and projecting side wings with Dutch gables at each end. Some original wood panelling remains inside. New façades were added in the early 19th century, and the house was later expanded. It is now a grade II* listed building, and is a private nursing home operated by Four Seasons Health Care.

Famous quotes containing the word house:
“Though the house is full of
candy bars the wasted ghost
of my parents is poking
the keyhole, rubbing the bedpost.”
—Anne Sexton (19281974)
“The house a woman creates is a Utopia. She cant help itcant help trying to interest her nearest and dearest not in happiness itself but in the search for it.”
—Marguerite Duras (b. 1914)
“Most books belong to the house and street only, and in the fields their leaves feel very thin. They are bare and obvious, and have no halo nor haze about them. Nature lies far and fair behind them all. But this, as it proceeds from, so it addresses, what is deepest and most abiding in man. It belongs to the noontide of the day, the midsummer of the year, and after the snows have melted, and the waters evaporated in the spring, still its truth speaks freshly to our experience.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
