Safavid Period
During the years 1506–1510, Yazidi Kurds revolted against Shah Ismail I of Safavids (who himself had Kurdish ancestry ). Their leader, Shir Sarim, was defeated and captured in a bloody battle wherein several important officers of Shah Ismail lost their lives. The Kurdish prisoners were put to death "with torments worse than which there may not be".

Famous quotes containing the word period:
“I dont like to be idle; in fact, I often feel somewhat guilty unless there is some purpose to what I am doing. But spending a few hoursor a few daysin the woods, swamps or alongside a stream has never seemed to me a waste of time.... I derive special benefit from a period of solitude.”
—Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter, Jr.)
