Highway 61 Revisited - Live Performances

Live Performances

Dylan first performed every song except one from Highway 61 Revisited in concert in 1965. They have remained central, in varying degrees, to his repertoire during Dylan's long career of live performances since then. According to Dylan's official website, he has played "Like a Rolling Stone" over 2,000 times, "Highway 61 Revisited" more than 1,700 times, "Ballad of a Thin Man" over 1,000 times, and most of the other songs between 150 and 500 times. There is no record of Dylan having performed "Queen Jane Approximately" in 1965; the first recorded live performance was in a July 1987 show in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Since then, Dylan has performed "Queen Jane" over 70 times. "From a Buick 6" is the sole composition from Highway 61 Revisited for which there are no records of Dylan playing since 1965.

Famous quotes containing the words live and/or performances:

No healthy man, in his secret heart, is content with his destiny. He is tortured by dreams and images as a child is tortured by the thought of a state of existence in which it would live in a candy store and have two stomachs.
    —H.L. (Henry Lewis)

At one of the later performances you asked why they called it a “miracle,”
Since nothing ever happened. That, of course, was the miracle
But you wanted to know why so much action took on so much life
And still managed to remain itself, aloof, smiling and courteous.
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)
