Henry's Law - Influence of Electrolytes

Influence of Electrolytes

The influence of electrolytes on the solubility of gases is sometimes given by Sechenov (often spelled Setchenov) equation which accounts for the "salting out" (i.e., decreasing the solubility) or "salting in" (i.e., increasing the solubility) effect (see the article on activity coefficient). The Sechenov equation can be written as:

where:

  • *z1 is the solubility of gas 1 in pure solvent
  • z1 is the solubility of gas 1 in an electrolyte solution
  • y expresses the salt composition

Famous quotes containing the words influence of and/or influence:

I am always glad to think that my education was, for the most part, informal, and had not the slightest reference to a future business career. It left me free and untrammeled to approach my business problems without the limiting influence of specific training.
    Alice Foote MacDougall (1867–1945)

To-day ... when material prosperity and well earned ease and luxury are assured facts from a national standpoint, woman’s work and woman’s influence are needed as never before; needed to bring a heart power into this money getting, dollar-worshipping civilization; needed to bring a moral force into the utilitarian motives and interests of the time; needed to stand for God and Home and Native Land versus gain and greed and grasping selfishness.
    Anna Julia Cooper (1859–1964)
