Early Life
Blofeld's family were landowners in Norfolk and he was the youngest of three siblings. His older brother, Sir John Blofeld, became a High Court judge. Henry Blofeld's father (Tom Blofeld, b. 1903, d. 1986) went to Eton with Ian Fleming and his name may have been the inspiration for the name of James Bond supervillain, Ernst Stavro Blofeld. Blofeld's uncle was the Honourable Freddie Calthorpe, who captained England on their first-ever tour of the West Indies in 1929/30. His elder brother, Sir John Blofeld, also played in one Minor Counties Championship match for Norfolk against Kent 2nd X1 in July 1957.

Famous quotes related to early life:
“... business training in early life should not be regarded solely as insurance against destitution in the case of an emergency. For from business experience women can gain, too, knowledge of the world and of human beings, which should be of immeasurable value to their marriage careers. Self-discipline, co-operation, adaptability, efficiency, economic management,if she learns these in her business life she is liable for many less heartbreaks and disappointments in her married life.”
—Hortense Odlum (1892?)
“Many a woman shudders ... at the terrible eclipse of those intellectual powers which in early life seemed prophetic of usefulness and happiness, hence the army of martyrs among our married and unmarried women who, not having cultivated a taste for science, art or literature, form a corps of nervous patients who make fortunes for agreeable physicians ...”
—Sarah M. Grimke (17921873)
