Heck Cattle

Heck cattle are a hardy breed of domestic cattle. These cattle are the result of an attempt to breed back the extinct aurochs from modern aurochs-derived cattle in the 1920s and 1930s. Controversy revolves around methodology and success of the program. Considerable differences exist between Heck cattle and the aurochs. Futhermore, there are other cattle breeds which resemble their wild ancestor at least as much as Heck cattle.

Famous quotes containing the word cattle:

A man shall perhaps rush by and trample down plants as high as his head, and cannot be said to know that they exist, though he may have cut many tons of them, littered his stables with them, and fed them to his cattle for years. Yet, if he ever favorably attends to them, he may be overcome by their beauty.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
