Hari Seldon - Foundation

Foundation

Using psychohistory, Seldon determines the right time and place to set up a new society, one that would replace the collapsing Galactic Empire by sheer force of social pressure, but over only a thousand-year time span, rather than the ten-to-thirty-thousand-year time span that would normally have been required. The Foundation is placed on Terminus, a planet entirely populated by scientists and their families. The planet was originally occupied to create the Encyclopedia Galactica, a vast compilation of the knowledge of a dying galactic empire.

Famous quotes containing the word foundation:

A full belly to the labourer was, in my opinion, the foundation of public morals and the only source of real public peace.
    William Cobbett (1762–1835)

I have witnessed the tremendous energy of the masses. On this foundation it is possible to accomplish any task whatsoever.
    Mao Zedong (1893–1976)

Simplicity of life, even the barest, is not a misery, but the very foundation of refinement; a sanded floor and whitewashed walls and the green trees, and flowery meads, and living waters outside; or a grimy palace amid the same with a regiment of housemaids always working to smear the dirt together so that it may be unnoticed; which, think you, is the most refined, the most fit for a gentleman of those two dwellings?
    William Morris (1834–1896)
