Handkerchief Code - Examples

Examples

This table is drawn from Larry Townsend's The Leatherman's Handbook II (i.e., the second edition of the book in 1983, the first edition of which came out in 1972 and did not include this list), and is generally considered authoritative. Implicit in this list of hanky color codes is the concept of right/left polarity, left as usual indicating the top, dominant, or active partner, right the bottom, submissive, or passive partner—this can, however, be ambiguous for some acts. Purple, the code for piercing, merely indicates an interest in piercing (usually that the wearer has body piercings), not necessarily that they wish to incorporate piercing into sexual play.

Color Meaning
Black S&M
Red Fisting
Dark blue Anal sex
Light blue Oral sex
Yellow Watersports
Brown Scat
Green Hustler/Prostitution
Orange Anything, anywhere, anytime (but not necessarily anyone)
Purple Into piercing
Grey Bondage

The long, elaborate lists found on the web are more imaginative and the many color codes in them are less often used in practice, although most of the colors in longer lists are offered as bandanas for sale at almost all LGBT leather stores along with free color code cards listing their meanings.

Famous quotes containing the word examples:

In the examples that I here bring in of what I have [read], heard, done or said, I have refrained from daring to alter even the smallest and most indifferent circumstances. My conscience falsifies not an iota; for my knowledge I cannot answer.
    Michel de Montaigne (1533–1592)

There are many examples of women that have excelled in learning, and even in war, but this is no reason we should bring ‘em all up to Latin and Greek or else military discipline, instead of needle-work and housewifry.
    Bernard Mandeville (1670–1733)

Histories are more full of examples of the fidelity of dogs than of friends.
    Alexander Pope (1688–1744)
