On December 15, 1836 Hamilton Fish married Julia Kean (a descendant of a New Yorker who was a New Jersey governor, William Livingston). The couple's lengthy marriage life was described as happy and Mrs. Fish was known for her "sagacity and judgement". The couple would have three sons and five daughters. Hamilton Fish had multiple notable descendants and relatives.
