Group A Streptococcal Infection
The Group A β-hemolytic streptococcus (Streptococcus pyogenes, or GAS) is a form of β-hemolytic Streptococcus bacteria responsible for many common infections including "strep throat" and skin infections. There are many other types of Streptococcus including Group B Streptococcus and Streptococcus pneumoniae which cause other types of infections and should not be confused with Group A Strep. Several virulence factors contribute to the pathogenesis of GAS, such as M protein, hemolysins, and extracellular enzymes.
For more details on these virulence factors, see Streptococcus pyogenes.Read more about Group A Streptococcal Infection: Types of Infection, Severe Streptococcal Infections, Treatment, Relation With Tics and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
