Greber Plan

The Greber Plan, or General Report on the Plan for the National Capital (1946–1950), was an urban plan developed in 1950 by Jacques Gréber for the Federal District Commission of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Its main components were:

  • planning the region as an integrated system
  • making the Capital symbolize the whole country
  • relocating the rails from central Ottawa
  • improving transportation
  • decentralizing government offices
  • creating a scenic parkway system and restoring shorelines
  • creating the National Capital Greenbelt
  • expanding Gatineau Park (formed in 1938)

The plan is available online as part of the "Lessons from Planning Canada's Capital: 1800-2000" site.

Famous quotes containing the word plan:

He fashions evil for himself who does evil to another, and an evil plan does mischief to the planner.
