Grand Hotel (film) - "I Want To Be Alone"

"I Want To Be Alone"

As Grusinskaya, Greta Garbo clearly delivers the line "I want to be alone" twice. She insisted during a later interview "I only said 'I want to be let alone.' There is all the difference." This statement has been repeated in numerous articles about Garbo, to the point that many people may actually believe that the line in the film was "I want to be let alone."

Famous quotes containing the word want:

Ibsen is like this room where we are sitting, with all the tables and chairs. Do I care whether you have twenty or twenty-five links on your chain? Hedda Gabler, Nora and the rest: it is not that I want! I want Rome and the Coliseum, the Acropolis, Athens; I want beauty, and the flame of life.
    Eleonora Duse (1859–1924)
