Although "GNU/Linux" ( /ɡəˈnuː slæʃ ˈlɪnəks/) is often pronounced without the slash, Stallman recommends explicitly saying the word "slash" or "plus" in order to avoid the mistaken suggestion that the Linux kernel itself is a GNU package.
