GDM (the GNOME Display Manager) provides a simpler to use alternative display manager for the X Window System's XDM.
The X Window System by default uses the XDM display manager. However, resolving XDM configuration issues typically involves editing a configuration file. GDM allows users to customize or troubleshoot settings without having to resort to a command line. Users can pick their session type on a per-login basis. GDM 2.38.0 is the last version that features easy customization with themes, further releases, no more support themes.

Famous quotes containing the words display and/or manager:
“I mistrust the satisfaction which makes a display of the possession of Infinity; that is called fatuity in philosophic terms.”
—Edgar Quinet (18031875)
“I knew a gentleman who was so good a manager of his time that he would not even lose that small portion of it which the calls of nature obliged him to pass in the necessary-house, but gradually went through all the Latin poets in those moments. He bought, for example, a common edition of Horace, of which he tore off gradually a couple of pages, read them first, and then sent them down as a sacrifice to Cloacina: this was so much time fairly gained.”
—Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (16941773)
