An Ideal GSSP
An ideal GSSP would:
- Be accessible to research
- Be easily related to other exposures worldwide
- Be extensive enough to ensure future access
- Contain a radiometrically datable bed at the boundary
- Include well defined markers at the stage boundary that can be applied worldwide
- Not be too steep
No GSSP is ideal.

Famous quotes containing the word ideal:
“The difference between the actual and the ideal force of man is happily figured in by the schoolmen, in saying, that the knowledge of man is an evening knowledge, vespertina cognitio, but that of God is a morning knowledge, matutina cognitio.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
