An Ideal GSSP
An ideal GSSP would:
- Be accessible to research
- Be easily related to other exposures worldwide
- Be extensive enough to ensure future access
- Contain a radiometrically datable bed at the boundary
- Include well defined markers at the stage boundary that can be applied worldwide
- Not be too steep
No GSSP is ideal.

Famous quotes containing the word ideal:
“The ideal of the self-sufficient American family is a myth, dangerous because most families, especially affluent families, do in fact make use of a range of services to survive. Families needing one or another kind of help are not morally deficient; most families do need assistance at one time or another.”
—Joseph Featherstone (20th century)
