Glenstal Abbey School - Sports

Sports

The main sport in Glenstal is and has always been rugby union. For all students in first and second year it is mandatory that they play rugby union. Teams are fielded at all ages from U-14 to U-19 and are involved in both friendly and competitive fixtures from late-September until March. Over the years Glenstal has produced many fine sportsmen - notably rugby players, athletes and tennis players. In recent years the school has enjoyed some success off the rugby pitch in local and regional track and field, tennis and soccer competitions.

Famous quotes containing the word sports:

I looked so much like a guy you couldn’t tell if I was a boy or a girl. I had no hair, I wore guys’ clothes, I walked like a guy ... [ellipsis in source] I didn’t do anything right except sports. I was a social dropout, but sports was a way I could be acceptable to other kids and to my family.
    Karen Logan (b. 1949)

Reading about ethics is about as likely to improve one’s behavior as reading about sports is to make one into an athlete.
    Mason Cooley (b. 1927)

There be some sports are painful, and their labor
Delight in them sets off. Some kinds of baseness
Are nobly undergone, and most poor matters
    Point to rich ends.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
