Dealing
Dealership alternates from round to round, with the first dealer chosen by any agreed upon method. The dealer deals 10 cards to both players, and then places the next card in the deck face up. This begins the discard pile. The face down pile is known as the stock pile. On the first turn, the non-dealing player has first option of taking the upcard on the discard pile or passing. If the non-dealing player passes the upcard, the dealer is given the opportunity to take the upcard. If the dealer also passes, the non-dealing player must draw from the stock pile, then the next turn and after, players can draw from the pile of his or her choice. Players can not take from the stock pile on their first turn unless a player acting prior has taken from the discard pile and discarded a card.

Famous quotes containing the word dealing:
“Just as soon as we notice that someone has to force himself to pay attention when dealing and talking with us, we have a valid demonstration that he does not love us or that he does not love us anymore.”
—Friedrich Nietzsche (18441900)
“Always carry it in thy mind, and act upon it, as a sure maxim: That women are timid: And tis well they areelse there would be no dealing with them.”

“They [women] can use their abilities to support each other, even as they develop more effective and appropriate ways of dealing with power.... Women do not need to diminish other women ... [they] need the power to advance their own development, but they do not need the power to limit the development of others.”
—Jean Baker Miller (20th century)
