Gideon Gono - Personal Life

Personal Life

Gono and his wife live on a chicken farm in the north of Harare. The house, which has been under construction since 2000, has 6 bedrooms; a swimming pool, gym, and landscaped gardens. It is equipped with security cameras. There are upwards of 10 000 chickens on this farm alone. It is also, just a short drive away from the mostly white owned neighborhood of Borrowdale Brooke, where President Robert Mugabe's own private residence is.

Like many of Mugabe's inner circle, Gono also owns a farm (in Norton). However, unlike others, he is said to have bought and paid for it in the late 90's before the land redistribution program in which other farms were confiscated from localised white farmers.

In November 2008, Gono published a book titled "Zimbabwe's Casino Economy: Extra-ordinary Measures for Extra-ordinary Challenges" describing the post-colonial economy of Zimbabwe particularly during the first five years (2003–2008) of his term as Governor of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ).

On October 24, 2010, the South-African newspaper Sunday Times ran a story falsely claiming that he had an affair with Amai Grace Mugabe, the wife of President Robert Mugabe. Later it was reported that the story could have been made up as a part of internal fighting inside the ruling party or the RBZ.

Famous quotes containing the words personal life, personal and/or life:

    The dialectic between change and continuity is a painful but deeply instructive one, in personal life as in the life of a people. To “see the light” too often has meant rejecting the treasures found in darkness.
    Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)

    The medium is the message. This is merely to say that the personal and social consequences of any medium—that is, of any extension of ourselves—result from the new scale that is introduced into our affairs by each extension of ourselves, or by any new technology.
    Marshall McLuhan (1911–1980)

    Your faith an’ trouth yese never get
    Nor our trew Love shall never twain
    Till ye come within my bower
    And kiss me both cheek and chin.

    My mouth it is full cold, Margret,
    It has the smell now of the ground;
    An’ if I kiss thy com’ly mouth
    Thy life days will not be long.
    Unknown. Clerk Saunders (l. 109–116)
