George Voorhis - Career

Career

Voorhis was a professional clown, magician and was acting as "Ronald McDonald" in Southern California from the mid-1960s until the mid-1980s. He made several commercials but his primary function as "Ronald McDonald" was personal appearances at openings of new McDonald's stores and newly renovated stores in and around the Southern California area.

Voorhis was a favorite clown among the other clowns and introduced the Big Mac successfully to McDonald's. One of his clown characters was called "Mr. Pockets". Voorhis had a daughter named "Barbara" who along with him as "Ronald McDonald" performed at openings of new McDonald's restaurants in the greater Los Angeles area. The shows were performed on a mobile stage called "McDonaldland" which included a magic show performed by Voorhis and his daughter Barbara as the Hamburgler.

Famous quotes containing the word career:

Like the old soldier of the ballad, I now close my military career and just fade away, an old soldier who tried to do his duty as God gave him the light to see that duty. Goodbye.
    Douglas MacArthur (1880–1964)

I seemed intent on making it as difficult for myself as possible to pursue my “male” career goal. I not only procrastinated endlessly, submitting my medical school application at the very last minute, but continued to crave a conventional female role even as I moved ahead with my “male” pursuits.
    Margaret S. Mahler (1897–1985)

Each of the professions means a prejudice. The necessity for a career forces every one to take sides. We live in the age of the overworked, and the under-educated; the age in which people are so industrious that they become absolutely stupid.
    Oscar Wilde (1854–1900)
