Lectures, Master Classes, Symposia
Lucas has spoken widely on his life and career. He also lectures widely on the mechanics of songwriting, extensive collaborations, composing for film, and the music business at the Amsterdam Music Conservatorum, Yale University (his alma mater), the University of Hawaii, New York University, and Columbia University. He has given guitar master classes at the Amsterdam Music Conservatory and in Honolulu at the University of Hawaii. He has also lectured at Rogers State University in Oklahoma, and McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Lucas also continues to conduct a popular symposium on his former mentor and collaborator, Captain Beefheart (Don Van Vliet), both in the U.S. and in Europe, including Amsterdam, June 16, 2012. His two symposium in Liverpool (Jan. 2012) were sold out. He will present at the Zappanale in Bad Doberan Germany in August—followed by a reunion of jazz-rock Beefheart Tribute ensemble Fast 'N' Bulbous co-lead by Phillip Johnston
