Gaogouli County was one of three prefectures of Xuantu Commandery in southeastern Manchuria. It was established by the Han Dynasty after the fall of Gojoseon to keep Goguryeo tribes in check. From 75 BC to 12 AD, Goguryeo tribes were under administration of Gaogouli County and engaged in client state relationship with the Han Dynasty. In 12 AD, Goguryeo rebelled against the Han Dynasty and established independence.
Famous quotes containing the word county:
“But I would say to my fellows, once for all, As long as possible live free and uncommitted. It makes but little difference whether you are committed to a farm or the county jail.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
