Frontage Road

A frontage road (also access road, service road, parallel road, etc.) is a local road running parallel to a higher-speed limited access road. A frontage road is often used to provide access to private driveways, shops, houses, industries or farms. Where parallel high speed roads are provided as part of a major highway these are known as Local-express lanes.

Famous quotes containing the word road:

How the cold creeps as the fire dies at length
    How drifts are piled,
    Dooryard and road ungraded,
Till even the comforting barn grows far away,
And my heart owns a doubt
Whether ‘tis in us to arise with day
    And save ourselves unaided.
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)
