Effect of Tectonic Activity
Tectonic activity can have very detrimental effects. An earthquake on Ranongga Island in the Solomon Islands moved 80% of its fringing reef permanently above sea level. Northern reefs became elevated 1m above the high tide water height, whereas on the south side reefs moved 2 to 3m above the water height.

Famous quotes containing the words effect of, effect and/or activity:
“I guess what Ive really discovered is the humanizing effect of children in my lifestretching me, humbling me. Maybe my thighs arent as thin as they used to be. Maybe my getaways arent as glamorous. Still I like the woman that motherhood has helped me to become.”
—Susan Lapinski (20th century)
“Whenever any form of government shall become destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, & to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles & organising its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety & happiness.”
—Thomas Jefferson (17431826)
“A worm is as good a traveler as a grasshopper or a cricket, and a much wiser settler. With all their activity these do not hop away from drought nor forward to summer. We do not avoid evil by fleeing before it, but by rising above or diving below its plane; as the worm escapes drought and frost by boring a few inches deeper.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
