Deck
The game of tarot is played using a 78-card tarot deck, which is composed of a numbered series of 21 trump cards (atouts), one Fool (l'excuse), and 4 suits (spades, hearts, diamonds, clubs), divided into 10 numbers from 1 to 10, and then the face cards of Jack (Valet), Knight (Cavalier), Queen (Dame) and King (Roi). The tarot deck used in cartomancy was derived from the game deck and maintains the structure of the deck. The style of tarot deck most often used for game playing is known as the "Tarot Nouveau" or "Bourgeois Tarot", which has card designs similar to the French styling of the 52-card deck.

“And deck the bananas in leaves
Plucked from the Carib trees,
Fibrous and dangling down,
Oozing cantankerous gum
Out of their purple maws....”

The ship has weatherd every rack, the prize we sought is won,
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring;
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.”
—Walt Whitman (18191892)

Printing their proud hooves i the receiving earth;
For tis your thoughts that now must deck our kings.”
