Frederick Reines - Personal Life

Personal Life

In 1940, Reines married Sylvia Samuels, who bore him two children, Robert and Alisa, who in turn produced six grandchildren. He died at age 80 in 1998.

Union City, New Jersey resident and Hudson County Genealogical and Historical Society board member Kathie Pontis has suggested that the pedestrian bridge bridge being constructed at the four-way intersection at Kennedy Boulevard and 32nd Street, which connects Union City, New Jersey with North Bergen, be named after Reines. According to Pontis, the naming would not only honor Reines' work, but would be appropriate in that the bridge connects the town in which Reines lived with the neighboring town in which he attended high school.

Famous quotes containing the words personal and/or life:

The secret point of money and power in America is neither the things that money can buy nor power for power’s sake ... but absolute personal freedom, mobility, privacy. It is the instinct which drove America to the Pacific, all through the nineteenth century, the desire to be able to find a restaurant open in case you want a sandwich, to be a free agent, live by one’s own rules.
    Joan Didion (b. 1934)

For strange effects and extraordinary combinations we must go to life itself, which is always far more daring than any effort of the imagination.
    Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859–1930)
