Frank Roy

Frank Roy (born 29 August 1958) is a British Labour Party politician, who has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Motherwell and Wishaw since 1997. He was a Government Whip and Lord Commissioner of HM Treasury from 2006 to 2010, after having served as an Assistant Whip from 2005.

Roy was, like many others in the area, a steelworker until he was made redundant in 1991 when Ravenscraig Steelworks closed. He worked as a parliamentary assistant to Helen Liddell MP before becoming MP for Motherwell and Wishaw. He is the first MP born locally to represent Motherwell and Wishaw.

Famous quotes containing the words frank and/or roy:

I can shake off everything if I write; my sorrows disappear, my courage is reborn. But, and that is the great question, will I ever be able to write anything great, will I ever become a journalist or a writer? I hope so, oh, I hope so very much, for I can recapture everything when I write, my thoughts, my ideals and my fantasies.
    —Anne Frank (1929–1945)

I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched seabeams glitter in the dark near the Tennhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. Time to die.
David Webb Peoples, U.S. screenwriter, and Ridley Scott. Roy Batty, Blade Runner, final words before dying—as an android he had a built-in life span that expired (1982)
