Fort Stedman

Fort Stedman is the name of two historical sites:

  1. Fort Stedman near Petersburg, Virginia, site of the Battle of Fort Stedman in the American Civil War
  2. Fort Stedman in colonial Burma (now Maing Thauk), where British administration over the southern Shan States was established in 1887

Famous quotes containing the word fort:

There was a deserted log camp here, apparently used the previous winter, with its “hovel” or barn for cattle.... It was a simple and strong fort erected against the cold, and suggested what valiant trencher work had been done there.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
