East of Webster Avenue and directly across from Fordham University, at Fordham Plaza, is a major hub for buses and a stop on the Metro-North Railroad's Harlem and New Haven lines. The Hudson Line also stops at the University Heights station. Fordham Road is served by the New York City Subway at Jerome Avenue (4 train) and Grand Concourse (B D trains). There was formerly a stop at Third Avenue before 1973.

The many bus routes in the area include the Bx9, Bx15, Bx17, Bx19, Bx22, Bx41 and Bx55.

The Bx12 and Bx12 Select Bus Service run along the entire length of Fordham Road.
