Some Forbes family members remain generally influential in local or national politics.

John Murray Forbes bought the island of Naushon, one of the Elizabeth Islands northwest of Martha's Vineyard and southwest of Cape Cod, in the 1840s and he and his descendants have used it as a summer retreat ever since. It is currently owned by Naushon Trust, Inc.
