Football At The 1904 Summer Olympics

At the 1904 Summer Olympics, a football event was contested. Only three club teams competed. Medals were awarded at the time, at least to the Canadian team. The 1904 contest is considered to be an official contest by the IOC but not by FIFA.

The 1904 Games were spread over several months, linked to the St Louis World's Fair, and football was the last sport to be contested, in November. The tournament was played as a straight round robin, although the game between Christian Brothers College and St. Rose Parish was replayed twice due to two 0-0 draws.

Famous quotes containing the words football and/or summer:

...I’m not money hungry.... People who are rich want to be richer, but what’s the difference? You can’t take it with you. The toys get different, that’s all. The rich guys buy a football team, the poor guys buy a football. It’s all relative.
    Martina Navratilova (b. 1956)

I swear to keep the dead upon my mind,/Disdain for all time to be overglad./Among spring flowers, under summer trees./By chilling autumn waters, in the frosts/Of supercilious winter—all my days/I’ll have as mentors those reproving ghosts.
    Gwendolyn Brooks (b. 1917)
