Fock State - Source of Single Photon State

Source of Single Photon State

Single photons are routinely generated using single emitters (atoms, Nitrogen-vacancy center, Quantum dot ). However, these sources are not always very efficient (low probability of actually getting a single photon on demand) and often complex and unsuitable out of a laboratory environment. Other sources are commonly used that overcome these issues at the expense of an nondeterministic behavior. Heralded single photon sources are probabilistic two-photon sources from whom the pair is split and the detection of one photon heralds the presence of the remaining one. These sources usually rely on the optical nonlinearity of some materials like periodically poled Lithium niobate (Spontaneous parametric down-conversion), or silicon (spontaneous Four-wave mixing) for example.

Famous quotes containing the words source of, source, single and/or state:

It is thus tolerance that is the source of peace, and intolerance that is the source of disorder and squabbling.
    Pierre Bayle (1647–1706)

Please don’t look at me as if you had a source of income other than your salary.
Joseph L. Mankiewicz, U.S. director, screenwriter. Joseph L. Mankiewicz. Countess (Danielle Darrieux)

The shore is composed of a belt of smooth rounded white stones like paving-stones, excepting one or two short sand beaches, and is so steep that in many places a single leap will carry you into water over your head; and were it not for its remarkable transparency, that would be the last to be seen of its bottom till it rose on the opposite side. Some think it is bottomless.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

The duties which a police officer owes to the state are of a most exacting nature. No one is compelled to choose the profession of a police officer, but having chosen it, everyone is obliged to live up to the standard of its requirements. To join in that high enterprise means the surrender of much individual freedom.
    Calvin Coolidge (1872–1933)
