History

The Fisher information was discussed by several early statisticians, notably F. Y. Edgeworth. For example, Savage says: "In it, he was to some extent anticipated (Edgeworth 1908–9 esp. 502, 507–8, 662, 677–8, 82–5 and references he cites including Pearson and Filon 1898 )." There are a number of early historical sources and a number of reviews of this early work.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

The history of all Magazines shows plainly that those which have attained celebrity were indebted for it to articles similar in natureto Berenice—although, I grant you, far superior in style and execution. I say similar in nature. You ask me in what does this nature consist? In the ludicrous heightened into the grotesque: the fearful coloured into the horrible: the witty exaggerated into the burlesque: the singular wrought out into the strange and mystical.
    Edgar Allan Poe (1809–1849)

It takes a great deal of history to produce a little literature.
    Henry James (1843–1916)

Properly speaking, history is nothing but the crimes and misfortunes of the human race.
    Pierre Bayle (1647–1706)
