First Baseman - Fielding

Fielding

Good defensive first basemen, according to Bill James, are capable of playing off first base so that they can field ground balls hit to the fair side of first base. The first baseman then relies upon the pitcher to cover first base to receive the ball to complete the out. Indications of a good defensive first baseman include a large number of assists and a low number of throwing errors by other infielders.

Famous quotes containing the word fielding:

A small voice issued from a bed placed in utter darkness where no ray of light was admitted, complaining of bad nerves, low spirits, and terrible dreams.
    —Sarah Fielding (1710–1768)

I had some short struggle in my mind whether I should resign my lover or my liberty, but this lasted not long. I found myself as free as air and could not bear the thought of putting myself in any man’s power for life only from a present capricious inclination.
    —Sarah Fielding (1710–1768)

Tanks. In any normal war they’re a beautiful sight, on your side.
Richard Blake, and William Cameron Menzies. Col. Fielding (Millburn Stone)
