Famous quotes containing the words figure, skating and/or jumps:

The eye is the first circle; the horizon which it forms is the second; and throughout nature this primary figure is repeated without end. It is the highest emblem in the cipher of the world.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Good writing is a kind of skating which carries off the performer where he would not go, and is only right admirable when to all its beauty and speed a subserviency to the will, like that of walking, is added.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Stiff springy jumps down the snowfields
    Head held back, forefeet out,
Balls tight in a tough hair sack
    Gary Snyder (b. 1930)
