Fermanagh District Council - Review of Public Administration

Review of Public Administration

Under the Review of Public Administration (RPA) the Council is due to merge with Omagh District Council in 2011 to form a single council for the enlarged area totalling 2829 km² and a population of 105,479. The next election was due to take place in May 2009, but on April 25, 2008, Shaun Woodward, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland announced that the scheduled 2009 district council elections were to be postponed until the introduction of the eleven new councils in 2011.

On Monday 3 September 2012 Fermanagh District Council became the first council in Northern Ireland to vote against Equal Marriage Unionist Councillors citing religious reasons this happened in a long standing anti LGBT climate in this bible belt area.

Famous quotes containing the words review of, review and/or public:

Americans have internalized the value that mothers of young children should be mothers first and foremost, and not paid workers. The result is that a substantial amount of confusion, ambivalence, guilt, and anxiety is experienced by working mothers. Our cultural expectations of mother and realities of female participation in the labor force are directly contradictory.
Ruth E. Zambrana, U.S. researcher, M. Hurst, and R.L. Hite. “The Working Mother in Contemporary Perspectives: A Review of Literature,” Pediatrics (December 1979)

As I review my life, I feel I must have missed the point, either then or now.
    Mason Cooley (b. 1927)

Yes; the public is wonderfully tolerant. It forgives everything except genius.
    Oscar Wilde (1854–1900)
