Feeding The Multitude

Feeding the multitude is the combined term used to refer to two separate miracles of Jesus in the Gospels.

The First Feeding Miracle, "The Feeding of the 5,000" is the only miracle (apart from the resurrection) which is present in all four canonical Gospels (Matthew 14:13-21, Mark 6:31-44, Luke 9:10-17 and John 6:5-15. This miracle is also known as the miracle of the five loaves and two fish.

The second miracle, "The Feeding of the 4,000" is reported by Mark 8:1-9 and Matthew 15:32-39 but not by Luke or John. This miracle is also known as the miracle of the seven loaves and fish.

Famous quotes containing the words feeding the, feeding and/or multitude:

We went on, feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, clothing the soldier, binding up his wounds, harboring the stranger, visiting the sick, ministering to the prisoner, and burying the dead, until that blessed day at Appomattox Court House relieved the strain.

The will to domination is a ravenous beast. There are never enough warm bodies to satiate its monstrous hunger. Once alive, this beast grows and grows, feeding on all the life around it, scouring the earth to find new sources of nourishment. This beast lives in each man who battens on female servitude.
    Andrea Dworkin (b. 1946)

Charity creates a multitude of sins.
    Oscar Wilde (1854–1900)
