- Three prototypes were ordered, two in August 1946 and one with a rear cockpit mock-up was ordered in July 1949. The first VR546 first flew on 19 September 1949 followed by the second VR577 on 6 July 1950. The third WE488 first flew in May 1951 and all three were powered by the Double Mamba ASMD1.
