Faa'a International Airport

Faa'a International Airport

Fa'a'ā International Airport (French: Aéroport International Tahiti Fa'a'ā) (IATA: PPT, ICAO: NTAA) is located in the commune (municipality) of Fa'a'ā, on the island of Tahiti, French Polynesia, 5 km (3.1 mi) west southwest from the town center of Pape'ete, the capital of French Polynesia. Tahiti is located in the northwestern part of French Polynesia, and this is the only international airport in the overseas country.

Because of limited level terrain, rather than leveling large stretches of sloping agricultural land, the airport is built primarily on reclaimed land on the coral reef just off-shore. The airport, operated by Setil Aéroports, has a single 3,420 m (11,220 ft) runway, large and sound enough to accommodate all commercial and military aircraft.

Air Tahiti has its head office on the airport property.

Famous quotes containing the word airport:

Airplanes are invariably scheduled to depart at such times as 7:54, 9:21 or 11:37. This extreme specificity has the effect on the novice of instilling in him the twin beliefs that he will be arriving at 10:08, 1:43 or 4:22, and that he should get to the airport on time. These beliefs are not only erroneous but actually unhealthy.
    Fran Lebowitz (b. 1950)
