Implementation of Biological Processes
- Generate the initial population of individuals randomly - first Generation
- Evaluate the fitness of each individual in that population
- Repeat on this generation until termination (time limit, sufficient fitness achieved, etc.):
- Select the best-fit individuals for reproduction - parents
- Breed new individuals through crossover and mutation operations to give birth to offspring
- Evaluate the individual fitness of new individuals
- Replace least-fit population with new individuals

Famous quotes containing the words biological and/or processes:
“It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past.... Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”
—George Steiner (b. 1929)
“The vast results obtained by Science are won by no mystical faculties, by no mental processes other than those which are practiced by every one of us, in the humblest and meanest affairs of life. A detective policeman discovers a burglar from the marks made by his shoe, by a mental process identical with that by which Cuvier restored the extinct animals of Montmartre from fragments of their bones.”
—Thomas Henry Huxley (182595)
