Evolutionary Algorithm - Implementation of Biological Processes

Implementation of Biological Processes

  1. Generate the initial population of individuals randomly - first Generation
  2. Evaluate the fitness of each individual in that population
  3. Repeat on this generation until termination (time limit, sufficient fitness achieved, etc.):
    1. Select the best-fit individuals for reproduction - parents
    2. Breed new individuals through crossover and mutation operations to give birth to offspring
    3. Evaluate the individual fitness of new individuals
    4. Replace least-fit population with new individuals

Famous quotes containing the words biological and/or processes:

Much of the ill-tempered railing against women that has characterized the popular writing of the last two years is a half-hearted attempt to find a way back to a more balanced relationship between our biological selves and the world we have built. So women are scolded both for being mothers and for not being mothers, for wanting to eat their cake and have it too, and for not wanting to eat their cake and have it too.
    Margaret Mead (1901–1978)

The higher processes are all processes of simplification. The novelist must learn to write, and then he must unlearn it; just as the modern painter learns to draw, and then learns when utterly to disregard his accomplishment, when to subordinate it to a higher and truer effect.
    Willa Cather (1873–1947)
