Famous quotes containing the words steam engine, star, class, steam and/or engine:

Now that the steam engine rules the world, a title is an absurdity, still I am all dressed up in this title. It will crush me if I do not support it. The title attracts attention to myself.
    Stendhal [Marie Henri Beyle] (1783–1842)

Don Pedro. To be merry best becomes you; for, out o’ question, you were born in a merry hour.
Beatrice. No, sure, my lord, my mother cried; but then there was a star danced, and under than was I born.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

We believe that Carlyle has, after all, more readers, and is better known to-day for this very originality of style, and that posterity will have reason to thank him for emancipating the language, in some measure, from the fetters which a merely conservative, aimless, and pedantic literary class had imposed upon it, and setting an example of greater freedom and naturalness.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

    Wisely watch for the sight
Of the supernova burgeoning over the barn,
Lampshine blurred in the steam of beasts, the spirit’s right
    Oasis, light incarnate.
    Richard Wilbur (b. 1921)

There is a small steam engine in his brain which not only sets the cerebral mass in motion, but keeps the owner in hot water.
—Unknown. New York Weekly Mirror (July 5, 1845)
