Supreme Court of Ohio
In 1996, Ohio’s then-Governor George Voinovich appointed Stratton to fill the term of Justice Craig Wright on the Supreme Court of Ohio. Stratton was elected to a 6-year term in November 1996 and re-elected in 2002. In 2008, she was reelected with 63% of the vote against Democrat Peter Sikora. Her current term will end in 2014.
Stratton announced in May 2012 that she will retire at the end of 2012. Governor John Kasich appointed Ohio Tenth District Court of Appeals Judge Judith L. French to succeed Stratton upon retirement.

Famous quotes containing the words supreme, court and/or ohio:
“We all ask ourselves the question why is it that some of us are killed while others remain. The only answer is our faith in the wisdom of a supreme being. If he has chosen us to live there must be a reason. I have tried to reckon out why. Perhaps he has saved us because we are needed as witnesses to remind each other, and our folks, and folks everywhere that war is too full of horrors for human beings.”
—Michael Blankfort. Lewis Milestone. Dickerman (Jack Webb)
“Follow a shaddow, it still flies you;
Seeme to flye it, it will pursue:
So court a mistris, shee denyes you;
Let her alone, shee will court you.
Say, are not women truely, then,
Stild but the shaddowes of us men?
At morne, and even, shades are longest;
At noone, they are or short, or none:
So men at weakest, they are strongest,
But grant us perfect, theyre not knowne.
Say, are not women truely, then,
Stild but the shaddowes of us men?”
—Ben Jonson (15721637)
“This fair homestead has fallen to us, and how little have we done to improve it, how little have we cleared and hedged and ditched! We are too inclined to go hence to a better land, without lifting a finger, as our farmers are moving to the Ohio soil; but would it not be more heroic and faithful to till and redeem this New England soil of the world?”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
