Postbellum

After the conflict McNair moved to New Orleans and later to Hattiesburg, Mississippi and Magnolia, Mississippi.

Evander McNair died at Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and is buried at Magnolia Cemetery in Magnolia. Although he fought on the side of the confederates, he was married to a Yankee, Hannah Merrill- born in New York, seen in appropriate census reports.
