An ethnic majority refers to a condition in which a particular ethnic group comprises the majority of a particular population. It is frequently based on genealogy. For example, we can refer to the Caucasian race, or the Asian race, or the black race. However, it can also refer to a commonality in cultural or religious practices, as well as linguistic or behavioral practices. For more information, refer to majority, minority, and/or ethnicity.
Famous quotes containing the words ethnic and/or majority:
“Caprice, independence and rebellion, which are opposed to the social order, are essential to the good health of an ethnic group. We shall measure the good health of this group by the number of its delinquents. Nothing is more immobilizing than the spirit of deference.”
—Jean Dubuffet (19011985)
“... the majority of us scarcely see more distinctly the faultiness of our own conduct than the faultiness of our own arguments, or the dulness [sic] of our own jokes.”
—George Eliot [Mary Ann (or Marian)
