Special Care Related To Pregnancy
Hydroxyurea and anagrelide are contraindicated during pregnancy and nursing. There is current debate as to the safety of interferon during pregnancy and nursing. Essential thrombocytosis can be linked with increased risk of spontaeous abortion or miscarriage in the first trimester of pregnancy. Throughout pregnancy, close monitoring of the mother for thrombosis and placenta is recommended to ensure blood clots are caught. Post partum, often daily injections of low dose low molecular weight heparin (e.g. enoxaparin) are prescribed for several weeks as this is a period where the mother is at higher risk of developing a blood clot.

Famous quotes containing the words special, care, related and/or pregnancy:
“Jack: A politician, huh?
Editor: Oh, county treasurer or something like that.
Jack: Whats so special about him?
Editor: They say hes an honest man.”
—Robert Rossen (19081966)
“Miracles occur,
if you care to call those spasmodic
Tricks of radiance miracles. The waits begun again,
The long wait for the angel,
For that rare, random descent.”
—Sylvia Plath (19321963)
“The near explains the far. The drop is a small ocean. A man is related to all nature. This perception of the worth of the vulgar is fruitful in discoveries. Goethe, in this very thing the most modern of the moderns, has shown us, as none ever did, the genius of the ancients.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“The frequency of personal questions grows in direct proportion to your increasing girth. . . . No one would ask a man such a personally invasive question as Is your wife having natural childbirth or is she planning to be knocked out? But someone might ask that of you. No matter how much you wish for privacy, your pregnancy is a public event to which everyone feels invited.”
—Jean Marzollo (20th century)
