Professional Associations and Unions

  • Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL Inc.) is a professional organization based in the United States. In addition, there are many large state-wide and regional affiliates, see below.
  • The International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (IATEFL) is a professional organization based in the United Kingdom.
  • Professional organisations for teachers of English exist at national levels. Many contain phrases in their title such as the Japan Association for Language Teaching (JALT), TESOL Greece in Greece, or the Society of Pakistan English Language Teachers (SPELT). Some of these organisations may be bigger in structure (supra-national, such as TESOL Arabia in the Gulf states), or smaller (limited to one city, state, or province, such as CATESOL in California).
