Enema of the State is the third studio album by American pop punk band Blink-182. Recorded at various locations throughout California with producer Jerry Finn, the album was released on June 1, 1999 in the United States on MCA Records. "What's My Age Again?", "All the Small Things" and "Adam's Song" were released as singles, each highly successful.
The band entered the studio trying to achieve a cleaner sound than that of their commercially successful sophomore record, Dude Ranch. The band fired former dummer Scott Raynor during an exhaustive touring schedule and he was replaced by Travis Barker, drummer of The Aquabats. The trio recorded the album over a period of four months at numerous locations in their hometown of San Diego and Los Angeles and experienced heightened celebrity during the process. The addition of Jerry Finn as producer proved to be positive for the band, as he polished mixes and helped achieve a more pop-inspired sound. The iconic artwork for Enema of the State features porn star Janine Lindemulder famously clad in a nurse uniform. The title is humorous pun on the term enemy of the state.
The highly anticipated record received positive reviews from professional music critics and was a major commercial success. It has sold over 15 million copies worldwide, making it the trio's highest selling album. "All the Small Things" became the breakout single of Enema of the State and bolstered the band to success, becoming a crossover hit on Top 40 radio. In addition, the music videos for the record's singles were very popular and received great rotation from MTV. In the years following the album's release, Enema of the State's considerable impact on contemporary pop punk music has allowed critics to regard it as a landmark rock album.
